Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
I really enjoyed the Kamakura trip. It was fun to go as a group, and I found Mr.Tanaka’s knowledge about each location very insightful.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
I think having conversation practice was very productive, and quite interesting! When paired with someone who doesn’t speak your native language, you were put in the position of using all of the Japanese knowledge you had acquired in the lead up to communicate. That became an exercise of its own.
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
Pair work, drills and tests were helpful for me. Drilling really instilled what we had just learned, pair work was helping in creating natural Japanese conversations, and tests showed where my weak points were.
What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?
I did! It was very interesting to learn more about the Japanese culture as opposed to just the language.
Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?
I like being close to the school, and having friends in the dorms. It makes it easy to go on school trips with friends, as the transit system can at times be difficult.
Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?
I highly suggest English support! There is no shame is needing help! You will find that it only enriches your knowledge and you will go into class more confident.
