KCP Summer Term Update: Extended Application and Payment Deadlines

The current outbreak of COVID-19 has caused governments around the world to put into place policies, similar to what Japan had done and may continue to do, in order to reduce and contain the spread of this virus. While the mortality risk is very low for the majority of KCP students, those younger under 30 in reasonably good health, it is the older generation that is most at risk. And the spreading of the virus to that population base could strain or even cripple the health care system around the world.

Every potential applicant should do a self analysis of his/her health, talk with a physician, family members, his or her home college or university if applicable, and analyze and follow the factual news (not sensational) about what’s really happening. Students need to make a rational informed decision, and it is impossible to make that decision about when or if to apply to our summer programs if it has to be made so far away from the program start date.

Summer programs deadline extension

KCP has extended its Summer and Summer Short-term application deadlines to May 8. We would encourage everyone to apply before that date, if possible. We have never had a term in our 30 plus years of offering housing that we were not able to secure reasonable, quality housing. But, if the Olympics will still be held this summer, it might reduce housing availability. We will offer housing on a first come, first served basis. We will also do everything we can to provide housing to anyone whose application is received by May 8.

Payment deadline extension

Japanese structure at Kamakura .We are moving the payment deadline to May 22. Anyone who lets us know in writing (or email) that they want to cancel Summer or Summer 8-week program can do so for a full refund, minus the non-refundable application deposit. You can also defer to a future term if you wish.

So there is very limited risk to you up until May 22, and by then, everyone will have a better idea on how effective current government policies have been.

Stay safe and healthy.
